Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. FYI:

India is in the process of offering a Visa On Arrival for many more nationalities now, including the US and UK. This was supposed to begin on 1 October, 2014.

I still don't see any confirmation though.

The Modi government is likely to start rolling out Visa on Arrival (VoA) facility for tourists from over three dozen countries including the USA & UK by this year-end, a move aimed at helping double tourist arrivals over the next three years.

Government sources said the home ministry would be ready with the necessary arrangements within the next two months and the facility could be extended to all countries in phases.

A formal decision on the countries which would be granted the facility is yet to be taken. But sources suggest the US and UK could be covered in the first phase.

Foreign tourist arrivals from these two countries accounted for a fourth of the 6.9 lakh annual foreign tourist arrivals in the country.

It is speculated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could make the announcement during his US visit.

The first push for the VoA scheme had come during the Manmohan Singh regime last October. But the initial enthusiasm fizzled out and the files started going around in circles when the home ministry asked for over 400 more immigration officers.

The change of guard at the centre helped breathe life back into the plan.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi putting his weight behind the initiative to cut the red-tape in tourism too, the Cabinet quickly cleared the home ministry proposal in early July.

Government sources told HT that.....

I have hears that a 1-month extension to an E-visa (business visa, not to be confused w/ 'e' as in electronic visa) is poor value, such as $40, providing an incentive to extend at least for 3-months. This could be due to minimum fee of intermediary?
I don't know what it costs via the official government channel. I do know I just paid $157 for a 6-month extension last week. And on another forum (no, not that one), a fellow reported a fee paid just last week of $280 for the 12-month.

If so, they will be sorely disappointed.

'I heard from a little birdie' that there is a wholesale campaign to close down all the 'lokalisasi' (bordello villages tolerated and monitored for decades). Doley in Surabaya, several in Sumatra, one in Riau islands etc. I expect in three years Indonesia will no longer be worthy of the original Moon Guide content.

Trust me, many are ghost towns already. A 'close friend' told me whose honesty and accuracy I trust 100%. Let me put it that way...

But for freelancers and street walkers, and especially girlfriends, Indonesia is a heck a lot different than Cambodia which is more like India with a virgin/whore mentality - and resulting pimping and hiding in dark corners, with resulting abuses and disease.

Cambodia is going the way of Vietnam of ten years ago (which is smartening up, but Cambodia is far behind in enlightened policies). USA and Anglo world is going way of Nazi Germany. China seems to be somewhere in between. Don't get me started on economic and monetary policies. Limited this post to sex and the law/society.
