Cambodia tomorrow! ! !

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Cambodia tomorrow! ! !

Post by stroodsue »

Had an amazing 4 days in Bangkok. Time has unfortunately avoided me a trip to Bang Sue... 😢
Done so much here! Bridge over River Kwai, Death Valley railway, Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, death valley museum, floating restaurant lunch. Long tail boat trip. Wat Pho, too much to say! Wonderful people, so friendly here!
Trip forward tomorrow to one night in Sihanoukville, then off to Koh Rong on Saturday! Watch this space!

Oh. Phnom Penh to Siem Reap by boat...? Advise please and

Siem Reap to Vietnam boat?
Please advise!

You're all superb! Xx

Seriously doubt there's enough liquid in the river for the boats to be running.

What did you think of the complementary champagne in 1st class?

More seriously though, the speed boat from Siem Reap to Vietnam sucks. I'd take a Virak Butham bus if I were you, OP. You'll get to experience life as a local.

Try to avoid Sihanoukville and get to the islands the same day. If Dante rewrote the inferno now it would be one of his circles of hell...
up to you...

From Phnom Penh to Siem Reap.
Took the boat 12 years ago....20$ and 6 hours.
Three years later it was 23$. 2 boats due to low water.
Thought the free champagne tasted a lot like rice whisky!

That was exactly the journey I made some 15 years ago - glad you did more than just Bangkok which becomes dull pretty quickly to my taste (not everyone's, noted). I also did the boat from PP to Siem Reap, as @Patcan suggested the 'bullet' boat is a good option if it is still running, not been on it for 13 years! I suggest on that boat if you still can, sit on the roof/stern/bow with a decent sun cream applied & cover up - inside is a bit claustrophobic and stale. Also I'd question if you're going on to Vietnam, why not travel from Bangkok to Siem Reap first, then take the boat from Siem Reap to PP, and then take the boat/bus from there to Vietnam. I don't recommend Virak Buntham however - a quick forum search will show you those damn buses have a godawful safety record. Giant Ibis probably a safer shout.
