Hunter Biden is in the PRC’s pocket, so will Joe.
The tough guy act is until he is officially in office. Then all the posturing will disappear.
At least my prediction.
Time to put the tin foil hat back on, now.

Re: Cambodia Should Be Worried About the Biden Presidency
Some of us have not yet given up on restoring a better relationship between the West and Cambodia.
Hopefully the Gov here will respond better to Biden's famous relationship-building inclinations than it did to the Trump administration's approach. ie, entrench the differences and amp up the military rhetoric.
just my view/hope
ps, not blaming the US local/regional officials, even the highest levels probably.
it is my impression that the experienced SEA hands in State, intel and military generally disagree with SEA-clueless Trumps totally gutting and ignoring all the collective wisdom there.

Re: Cambodia Should Be Worried About the Biden Presidency
Looking at it from a purely objective POV, and ignoring the Sinophobia, it makes excellent sense for KOW to be closer to PRC than USA. About half the FDI in Cambodia comes from China, the rest is split between other Asian countries - Japan, Vietnam, South Korea, Singapore. Its not all casinos in Sihanoukville, its investment in roads, rail, manufacturing and agriculture. Where do the Yanks come in? Well they have a CocaCola plant in one of the economic zones, plus a couple of other US companies have set up shop to take advantage of lower production costs (cheap labour). So if you were Cambodia, what would you do? You know it makes sense Rodney.

Re: Cambodia Should Be Worried About the Biden Presidency
President Xi can claim all of SE Asia as historically part of China.
Historically, a Commandary (garrison) was maintained in Vietnam by Imperial China.
It’s a stronger claim than the South China Sea.
Laos and Cambodia are already PRC. Only Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, are left to dominate.
I’ll put back on my tin foil hat back on, now.
I also hope that I’m completely off the mark and that Biden will transform Cambodia to a fully democratic, staunch US ally.

Somehow I doubt it. Historical alliance with China plus Cambodia seems like a low priority for an American prez.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Mon Nov 16, 2020 10:43 am I also hope that I’m completely off the mark and that Biden will transform Cambodia to a fully democratic, staunch US ally.

nor any precedent, law or convention that i know about.
2/ ONLY... ???
and you forgot the granddaddy of the lot - Indonesia, which alone has more than 10X the population of Laos and Cambodia combined.
So thanks for the history lesson anyway, but please don't write the region off just yet.
