Re: Cambodia needs to take a page from Thailand!

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

The sticks were just the traditional way of packaging it. Before baggies.
Wrapping them on sticks again now seems just a new marketing ploy.
The very particular qualities of the old thai varieties were what made them legendary - not the bamboo stick and hemp thread.

(so so) Sadly those strains now seem to be totally extinct from all (knowledgeable) reports i can find.
The strains needed continuous seed selection to prevent them regressing back to hemp.
Sativa generally is particularly prone to turn hermaphrodite. If these plants are not removed they soon pollinate into the whole crop, and in a few years they will nearly all be hermies, or just poor quality.

The strictly enforced prohibition that occurred from the 1980's totally broke that whole traditional culturing of these unique varieties. Once gone, it would take a hundred years of traditional farming to bring them back.

Let me know if i am wrong. I would love nothing more than to find they still exist in some hidden hills.
But, i will know for sure if it is fake - if you ever had the privilege, you remember the real thing for the rest of your life. Unique.

Three's not really enough product on the street for the officials to making any serious money. Let's hope this fairs better for them and sets a trend the neighbors can covet.
seems to be plenty of thai product on the street in Cambodia
I haven't seen any of that red string crap. You know something I don't know? :beer3:
I was told by a friend. Apparently the quality has been improved by blending but i can't confirm that as am the only barang in cambodia who does not consume pharmaceuticals

I'd like to try a little of it before I die. I've heard it makes you "high".
Doesn't make me high, just hungry and sick. Some people are allergic to the stuff, for those of you who didn't know, and it can have an unpleasant reaction like vomiting and paralysis. Don't wear your best shirt if you decide to have a giggle and blow it in my face
