At 4 am in the morning I got off a overnight bus in Kota Bharu and found a old lady manning a small noodle and coffee stall at the bus station. Ordered a hot coffee and it was no doubt the best coffee I have ever tasted. Been back to that stall 2 or three times now and they were all good ,,, specially at only 2 MR.

haha I remember years ago asking for a cappuccino at a hotel, and received a coffee with a huge blob of whipped cream and chocolate sprinkles and oil blobs on top. It was gross. That was probably 15 years ago though.

well it is Muslim and you cannot get happy pizza.
it is so modern, in places it reminds me of Australia- the infrastructure I mean.
it has great food and some interesting colonial towns.

on balance though, Indonesia is far more appealing for medium term stays.

thats the first thing that reminded me of... the infrastructure of australia where i spent a good part of my life in.

havent worked in cambo before but was there for a week+ exploring and walking. thought the people were super friendly. in terms of malaysia (KL) where I am now working, cannot complain but then again, its a much more modern country and wealthier and havnet had a war for a good while...

in my view, both countries give HK for a run of her $ for what little $ they have...

I was in Malaysia for 7 weeks December, January, and February this past year.
It's clean yes and grab is a nice way to get around. Pricewise is cheapest if you have a kitchen and cook meals at home.
I was in KL to start and then Penang for most of January. Penang is laid back and friendly. Worth a holiday if you want quiet and relaxing without any nightlife other than Georgetown. Batu Ferringhi is about as touristy as it gets for the beaches. We stayed in Tanjung Bungah and planned only a week and wound up there for 6 weeks. Easy to relax and settle in to daily routines. People are very friendly.
Also has a decent bus transit system covering most of the island, which is useful.

You can't smoke in public (except in little designated areas) in Penang. Indonesians may be friendlier but like Thais that's only because they're trying to rip you off; and, the tourist areas of Bali as well as all of most Indonesian cities are shit holes.
You could be next.
