Cambodia's First Online Shopping: My All in One Mall (MAIO)

Phnom Penh: There's a new shopping mall in Cambodia! No, I'm not talking about AEON Mall. That's old news. I'm talking about My All in One Mall (MAIO Mall for short). It's an online shopping mall.

It's having it's soft launch, and they're offering few a shipping through the month of March for every 10th costumer, plus some other promotions.

Is this Cambodia's version of http://www.Amazon.com or http://www.AliBaba.com? I guess we'll have to wait and see how it works out.

I can't wait to hear the horror stories with the shipping, LoL...

There have been several websites selling stuff online, and tons of independent sellers selling merchandise through Facebook. Given Cambodia's high import taxes, I suspect it won't be a huge hit, even if they do manage to get a big enough line of products. Plus, margins are typically already quite small. I'll have a look at the actual website once I get home. Online stores have been slowly creeping up, but it won't be fully operational until people start getting credit cards and all that. Or they could go local and have "pay on arrival" as a payment method. Still, online shopping can only grow here...

Sounds like they already have plans to take credit card and debit card payments.

I also assumed that the merchandise will be held IN Cambodia, but no idea really.

In Channy, CEO of Acleda Bank, which will handle the payments through credit and debit cards, said the growing familiarity that young generations have with using technology and the Internet will position the company to capitalize on a largely unexplored market.

A few years ago, there was a shop.com.kh or something similar (link doesn't load anything for me), but I think you had to pay cash on arrival, not credit card.
