I didn't say Cambodians in general are vicious and highly egotistic, but I know for a fact tons of them are, I'm just saying to you guys who live in your little bubblesdoktor_d wrote: ↑Thu May 24, 2018 3:03 pm Gotta agree with ShnoukieBRO. If you find Cambodians in general vicious, highly egoistic people, I don't know where you hang out. GSM maybe? Having traveled all the countries provinces the last 10 years, I would struggle to name another country with friendlier, more curious and talkative people than Cambodia. Laos comes close.. maybe the less visited provinces of Thailand should get a mention.. but for me, Cambodia tops the list.
they're very good at being nice to foreigners, but that's not their true nature. Like you see the true nature of foreigners on this forum, if you met them in person, they'd be
very polite and nice. Same with Cambodians.
Once you get past the bubble, they're just like people everywhere.

So...what do you go to Cambodia for?
Th great opportunities for research?
The great opportunities for you to donate your time/skills to the underprivileged populace?
Why are YOU here?

I have an ambivalent opinion of Cambodia.

You said "I would say at least 50% of them are pretty vicious, highly egotistic people."superferret wrote: ↑Thu May 24, 2018 7:15 pmI didn't say Cambodians in general are vicious and highly egotistic, but I know for a fact tons of them are, I'm just saying to you guys who live in your little bubblesdoktor_d wrote: ↑Thu May 24, 2018 3:03 pm Gotta agree with ShnoukieBRO. "AT LEAST 50% of them".. What a joke. It is obviously you who live in a bubble. And it is painfully clear that you can't have met very many Cambodians outside of the tourist industry as your description of them as a people is laughable at best.
But hey.. if all you truly meet whereever you go is "vicious, highly egoistic people", then maybe it's time to take a good look at the person staring back at you every time you look into a mirror? Maybe he's got something to do with it?

No, I don't live in a bubble, my khmer friends come from the lowest classes, so granted I don't have rich khmer friends, I've spent countless hours in real khmer neighborhoods,
the kind you probably wouldn't last 30 minutes, but who knows. But whatever keep believing they're all nice polite people, after one of them tried to kill me, I kind of lost that assumption.
Btw before you start coming up with theories, the reason she tried to kill me was romantic.
Okay, I'll concede on the vicious, maybe only 20% are vicious, but I'll stick with the 50% highly egotistic, and maybe I'll raise it to 70.

I've rented 4 different apartments the last 10 years.. all in "working class" Khmer neighborhoods. Never saw a barang in any of the neighborhoods those apartments were located in.. and would you believe it - I actually lasted more than 30 minutes!! I'm still alive and well.
But who am I kidding? That doesn't mean anything.. It's not like anyone has ever kept it realer in Cambodia than you right? Nobody knows Cambodia and Cambodians better than you I'm sure.
Or maybe.. just maybe.. Kayve's quote above is a more likely explanation for why you seem to keep having bad experiences with people whereever you go?
