Bye-Bye Tonlie Sap

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. If any-one knows of a spare lake that can be filled in for a new Chinese satellite city please contact them.

Jesus... Just what we need, a Chinese-styled ghost town. Having a place with actual urban planning (albeit Chinese urban planning) would be a step up from Phnom Penh I guess, but I can imagine it simply being bought out by rich khmers as an investment and left there for years with barely a soul living inside.

I'm learning all sorts of new words these days: RURBAN

"Peri-urban areas (also called rurban space, outskirts or the hinterland) aredefined by the structure resulting from the process of peri-urbanisation. It can be described as the landscape interface between town and country, or also as the rural—urban transition zone where urban and rural uses mix and often clash."
"Life is too important to take seriously."

"Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh."

The ideal place for a glittering new
satellite city would be next to the DK-era
unused (?) airport at Kompomh Chhnang

We have a glittering new satellite city gently rusting away in SHV. Pearl City. Nice big estate, all the houses were finished back in 2014. Never occupied. It's all slowly crumbling to bits whilst they tiddle around finishing the skyscraper. I saw about half a dozen people up the top with torches and maybe a welding rig the other day, so it'll be about 2030 when it's finished. Compare that to the new building going up on Ekareach by the lions, another Chinese tower of some sort but they have people working it 24/7, so over the last couple of months it's shot up. Perhaps another addition to the under-represented casino market here.

What was the story behind that, other than it being built in the arse-end of town by Russians, I assume. Seems to be them mostly trying to flog them, anyhow. It's looked like a dump for at least three years now. It was certainly a bit out the way when they hadn't finished the last chunk of Mittapheap St to Otres. Other comical building sites to visit is the aeroplane building on the hill. You can go in and look at classic cars. You have to go in as the windows are all scratched and knackered now, you can see bugger all through them. Are they for sale? Is it a museum? No idea.

I wondered if there was a fee, I only went up there because about two years go there was supposed to be a restaurant and we were at a loss as to where my wife could sting me for a Valentine's meal. Young Sergey scooted past me on his moto, giving someone a backie.
