not really news as everyone knew as far back as 2008 when i looked at land there, that it would happen,

he news is that the bulldozers are moving in. The two strips of land in Sihanoukville province known as Otres 1 and Otres 2, which lie 1.5 kilometres apart, and a section of Ochheuteal beach (not yet clearly defined) slightly further west, have been given exactly one month to erase all construction within 50-metres of the sea.

The impact is significant. The 50-metre boundary will erase all buildings on the beach side of the red dirt road that runs through Otres – all in, roughly a kilometre’s worth of restaurants, bungalows and shops which provide – local officials estimate – about 1,000 jobs for the local economy.

Its really so similar to what happened here in phuket last year and the protests are the same.
But at the end of the day nothing you can do but packup and leave

I am going to go against all past experience and hold out hope that this plan of action is actually a good thing for the beach and for the general public. Many existing structures were in the surf at high tide, meaning there really was no beach available to anyone then anyway. The old development was sloppy and poorly planned and nothing special or worth saving anyway and I'm hoping against hope that the strech of beach in question gets cleared and re-opens to all.

Okay. You can begin your exasperated consternation now for my showing of naive optimism.

speaking from experience an what they did here in Phuket

is is a great thing, empty clean beaches.

this is a beach i visited outside Dawei in Dec, in Southern Myanmar on the Andaman SEa;

I agree. I could never understand the Asian fascination of building stuff so close to the ocean. I put it down to the fact that the Khmer middle classes hate walking. The 'girls'with their barang partners are of course 'middle-class' now. Even if it's only for 5 minutes.

That beach makes me feel all tingly again. Shame the business men will be swarming all too soon. If you cross the river at the end of Otres and walk a couple of hundred meters, you get to a beach that looks a bit similar ( if smaller). Ream still had some fantastic beaches lasts year. Don't know how long that will last. But yeah. I love the Indian Ocean.

could this be the possible future scenario ?

they will remove all the semi and permanent places on the beach side of the dirt track
than all the bungalow across the street will set up DAILY beach chairs and cater to the guest sitting on the beach ( why go to a beach unless ur going to sit on the beach)?

so its a big win for everyone. the bungalows make more $$, the beach is once again beautiful and the bungalows will be responsible for keeping it clean.

Or locals will get smart and rent chairs an umbrellas
