Phnom Penh is a good place to buy guitars, especially second hand ones. There is one shop in the alley that runs between 154 and 172, east of 19. Another near the Russian market named Guitars Cambodia, Street 430.

I have never seen an original Martin in a shop here.
Unless you're after a specific model/brand for a particular reason, I would try some Korean/Japanese makes: Cort, Yamaha, Ibanez...the upper range Takamine guitars are the equivalent of any Martin

The next best guitar to a Martin is one that I presently own but needs a few adjustments. It was previously owned by a famous female guitarist called rozzieoz but I am willing to sell it, if your offer is in the five figure range. In a few years time I recon it will be more valuable than a Stradivarius.

I'm no musician but there is a Japanese guitar shop on St 155 at 478. It's a coffee shop (not bad) and bar, too.

If you have time I'd suggest having a visit along Street 107 near Orussey, a few local places with secondhand gear, some decent, dotted along it between Charles De Gaulle and Street 182. One thing you'd notice, apart from the proliferation of Yamahas and Morrises are the invariably high actions on the same. This climate's seriously tough on acoustic guitars, a Martin's too good to see buckle, which it slowly will here. If I were you I'd scout around for an older Japanese Yamaha or Morris (avoid Korean made of latter) that's still got a good action, they do exist, if rare, and can be suprisingly cheap. Again Street 107.

I was just thinking of this the other day if the heat and humidity would warp a guitar. I wonder if there are such things as guitars made of woods that are more resilient to the warmer climates.

Some promising leads there I will follow up next time Im in town . About the warping I did specifically ask the guy in a Martin shop in Bangkok and he said no problem . I guess they must have sorted that out or no one in the tropics would buy one . The only one I could afford is an entry level one which is made of not wood but some other laminated material apparently doesnt warp .
