Building a small retreat center near Angkor

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

just go on facebook- the joint is teeming with it.

as to "suitable" tourists, they only hang long enough to do the temples.

if you can go the backpacker route- kampot is budget.
Good advice. If I were setting up virtually any business I would firstly be doing some serious research on the competitors, and as flb says there's a lot out there. There are places offering retreats, yoga classes and etc in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Kampot. If the OPs have not already done so I would they would do well to check all the "opposition" websites to see how they can compete with offered services and price. On or two examples here:

Siem Reap

Angkor Bodi Tree

Angkor Zen Gardens

Phnom Penh
Mainly offering Yoga

Sihanoukville

If I were opening a retreat centre I would ask the French for advice, they have the most experience at this.

Takhmao for example? Or max distance Takeo. Or the other way and near Oudong?

As a busy father to a young son Kampot is too far and the guesthouses/hotels in Kien Svay are either not very nice or/and are too close to the city to feel like you've gotten far enough away.

Somewhere surrounded by rice fields but close enough to the city. 1 hour 30 max travel.

Retreat for over worked and underpaid Phnom Penh-ites.
Could work seriously/possibly.
I got a shit load of rural land 50km from the capital in Kampong Speu..... wanna do a deal? Anyone?????
Price and size?
Enough, and negotiable. I'll even put you up for a weekend and show you the sights.

Water usually isn't an issue un Cambodia. Just dig a well... Only a few places where it's tricky (mostly rocky places in eastern Cambodia or near the coast).
