10 BOGUS excuses people use for stealing photos

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

You're not a bad photographer, I'll give you that.

In fact, I'd say you're pretty good.

Just drop the twaddle.

Is this legally true in Cambodia?
100% legally true in Cambodia. Actually, Cambodia doesn't yet have laws regarding commercial exploitation of images... so you can shoot and publish without permission. Though, I'd say that was a pretty shitty thing to do. However, I see nothing wrong with a street photographer taking images without permission - I see plenty wrong with publishing them for commercial exploitation without permission.

The idea of anything being either 100% legally true or false does not exist n Cambodia. Something is legally true when the judge says so, but tomorrow the same judge may rule that it is untrue. It is rumoured that the new Cyber Crime law will address some of these issues. :hattip: :hattip:

my dad is a professional photographer, he has his small watermark in the corner of all his photos, mainly to advertise his business, all the photos on his website all have right click protection, so its impossible for people he doesnt allow to copy them, he does often put photos on facebook that he allows the public to see, to advertise his business, usually just his personal snaps, but they will be watermarked.

if i ever take a picture no matter what the situation whether in public or not or whether they are friends or strangers, i always ask if i can take a picture, i always ask because i hate having my photo taken (unless its a group photo when im drunk lol) so i respect that not everyone wants their photo taken

There are ways around that, you can save a whole page and then copy the photo from it, you can hit print screen and crop the image, and you can Photoshop out the watermark..
