Boeung Tompun

Post by narnett06 »

New to phnom penh and was wondering what living in Boeung Tompun is generally like? I'm looking at a place near Phnom Penh Sports Club. Safe/easy to get around/ places to eat and drink/ expat friendly?
Thanks!

There a quite a few posters living in that area.
Unless you are on the main road, it is generally pretty quiet in comparison with other parts of the city.
Living near the PP Sports Club will be convenient for shopping at One and One Mart, as well as Sovanna Shopping Center. Also, it's quite close to plenty of eateries in the Russian market area.
The only inconvenience I find is that it is quite a distance to the riverside and adjacent areas.

I'm looking at BT and Daeum Thkov myself. Will be having a look-see out that way starting Sunday.

Years ago I found Sovanna quite a boring experience but maybe it's improved. Am keen to be near Super Duper on 488 as well as TTP area.

So what's One on One Mart all about?

One and One is on 271, almost directly opposite the PP Sports Club. It's a good lil supermarket like Super Duper catering to expats and the like. Worth checking out.
Just a tad up the road from 1 n 1 heading towards Sovanna is Central supermarket. Asian style selling what they think we want. Forget it!

Maybe I'm blind, but missed it. It's the same road as Central Supermarket? Drove up and down 3 times and couldn't find it.

^^^ Same road as Central (271) and on the same side as central. Almost opposite the Sports Club. It has quite a small frontage.

There are two Sovannas now. In the same street. Went to the newer one recently and found it a bit sterile, but that's what my Khmer friends prefer. They think its classier. It was non-smoking but the beer was still served warm. 8)

That's Sovanna BBQ near Psah Kap Go, and nowhere near Boeng Tumpun.

We were talking about Sovanna Mall, near the Khmer Soviet Hospital.
