An update on my boat. Next will be a top to stay out of the sun. It had a few issues on its shakedown cruise. Hopefully everything will be good to go next weekend!

The Titanic had a few issues on its shakedown cruise as well, as did that ferry the young Aussies did up with cabins and foundered on the lake.

Nice article on boats of SEA. I don't know about PP, but in Snooky there is nowhere you can launch a skiff/boat from a trailer. There are no boat ramps like the ones all over America. Looks like a real business opportunity to me. The three years I've been in Snooky is the longest I haven't had a skiff/ boat or lived on a boat/sailboat in close to 50 years. (43 years as a Merchant Mariner on ships also.) Also someone making decent boat trailers would have a corner on the market in Cambo. The boat shop on the main drag in Snooky sells alum skiffs and motors, but no trailers.

You can't leave a boat on the beach or anchored as everything including it will disappear. I thought about the problem and bought a 12ft fishing kayak from Thailand.(FeelFree Mokem 12.5) I made an outrigger and sail rig for it and am just about ready to launch. It has detachable wheels so I can drag it the 3min to the beach, the outrigger comes off with 4 bolts and the whole sail rig collapses to the deck. It has a hobie cat sail cut down a little. I've also made provision for a small outboard motor and it has a depth sounder/fish finder. I've gone as far as Singapore to get parts for it and sent to America for running rigging parts. First class inflatable life vest is also part of the equipment.

The Add Jay: Did you get your longtail from Thailand? In Cambo the bearing inside of the chrome tailshaft is usually open and usually rusty when you buy it. The Thai ones from KKK in Bangkok are a sealed bearing. The Cambo longshaft is also inferior to the Thai ones. The Cambo one just has a piece of rebar as skeg, where the Thai one (and yours) has an actual fin. Also at the end of the Cambo longshaft there is no bearing, The Thai one (and yours)has a very good wood bearing and doesn't flop around like the cambo one. If you got a Thai longtail in Cambo, where did you get it as it is a superior one to most Cambo junk? (at least from the pictures showing a wood bearing.)

About 26 some years ago I ran a tax scam where I imported longtails kits (one cylinder) to America and sold them (advertised in Small Boat Mag.) In return, I got first class tax deductible vacations in Thailand for three years. (US tax code at the time you could lose money for three years and still deduct "expenses.") I've been to the Korn Yunt factory in Bangkok and they did some mods for me such as outboard motor clamps for the transom of skiffs. I sold them from Nome, Alaska to the tip of Florida. I tried to get them to take the KKK off of the chrome housing by trying to explain that in America the KKK is a gang that hates black people, but the factory insisted it would stay.

Nice boats guys. How I miss them.

Quick story, in Mexico south of Cancun, I rented a Sunfish-14' with raging winds and 10-15' swells. the sailing was so "hot" I was able the plane on the 4" side of the craft.

I addition I had a fishing rod and dragging a Mepps Lure. So the tiller was under my left knee, and the mainsheet wrapped around my right leg, so my hands were free to manage the fishing rod.

What a wild ride. Everything went well, caught a fish, came back to shore, about 30' out a wave curled, spun me over and snapped the mast. Came up in 3' of water, so ok.
