Tutters of defacing public or private property leave cold.
Advertisers have already hijacked our "visual amenity" with wall to wall commercial crap. Governments sell, deface and destroy our our natural and cultural heritage every day.
I have always seen even tagging and poor quality spray jobs not as "vandalism" but as asymmetric warfare.

Re: Banksy- art makes you think
I can relate to the "doing of the graffiti" I had a go too, but it took me a lot longer to wash it away from the wall, then spraying it on. Why! I did actually feel guilty for doing it, more so that it was someone's property I had defaced. Then my opportunity came, there was a school that was looking for someone who could paint some art on one of there building walls, around about 80m2 in area. Yes I did it, but I don't know how I felt about it in the end, Postman Pat didn't just cut it with me, but graffiti was out of my system. I had learnt to spray paint from quite a young age, turning out to be my main profession. I started on the industrial side, helping out people who would be manufacturing, then at the age of fifteen I was respraying cars, later I moved on to commercial vehicles also becoming a brush hand. That's when I got involved with the oil companies, sub contracting for most of my work. There is not much I have not painted one way or another.John Bingham wrote: ↑Tue Dec 10, 2019 9:49 pm Banksy is popular because the message, although subversive, is very easily understood.
I remember seeing this one appearing in London in the early 2000s, I found it hilarious.
I did my fair bit of graffiti/ vandalism in my wayward youth. I even got into making stencils because they were easier to put up quickly while doing a freehand piece could take a lot of time and you were likely to be apprehended. My stencils were too small and detailed too though with confusing messages. Many young Cambodians interested in art who I talk with seem to like his work, it has a populist appeal.

For me I like art in most forms, now I play around with art in photography with the aid of a smartphone, I am getting near to what I want to see.

Re: Banksy- art makes you think
Again I had a wander late one evening, not to do what Banksy did with is undercover work, but take some photo's of street art in Phnom Penh city.
Here in the area of Daun Penh. This first set are taken with a Microsoft Lumia 950
Little dark down some alleyways, but there was a good moon and at times when too dark I could use the headlight on the moto.
There is a fare bit of Tagging in this area too

Re: Banksy- art makes you think
superb
agree also with sternAAlbifrons, how dare 'authority' demand 'beauty standards', but then sell it out to commercials
though I'm not really a fan of outlined penes or 'chav woz ere' scrawls, etc
a problem with 'radical' art is that to be accepted is to be diminished, in some sense
.
monstra mihi bona!

beautiful
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.
