I travelled full time for business for more than 15 years, 7 of those years were full time international travel. On two occasions did my card have issues. Once in a 3rd world country where the bank itself was known for scamming people (and the machine was set to capture your card if you didn't immediately pull it out when it started to be returned). And once legitimately my card was flagged (by mistake by my bank).

Thats in 15 years.

I'd recommend you stay at Raffles. Check you bank account and if everything is ok and you get your card back, then its up to you if you want to continue to see this woman. She at the very least has many friends that work as prostitutes. At the worst you are a very inviting target. Good Luck.

Like all posters on this forum I hope all works out for the best. However I do share the scepticism that is rearing its ugly head. As unpleasant as these suspicions may be, most of them.come from posters with a long term history in this country or Asia in general.

It's none of my business but I am curious. How much money did her alleged brother say he supposedly withdrew from the ATM and does that jive with bank records?

Until that question is answered I suggest you stay put in your original digs pleading the need for R&R for you and your canine buddy.

I have a another question, this isn't supposed to be offensive I would just like to hear your thoughts David. Why Angkor Wat? For me it's akin to a deaf man going to an opera. Essentially you'll just be walking & driving about in the boiling hot sun all day.

May I suggest hanno as a possible guide as he has been over 100 times and still just can not get enough of the place.

Perhaps it was her idea. She may have never worked the circuit there and hence will not be denied entry.in the more kalip(posh) hotels there. Just an unproven hypothesis.

I guess that David, being mostly blind will have enhanced other senses.

So, the feel of the ancient carvings will be special.

As I say I'm hooked on this thread and look forward to Chapter 3 from David.

The only negative part spoken by him was his mention of his GF saying Raffles staff were rude and saying unkind things, which we all know cannot be entirely accurate - the Manager of this prestigious Hotel would be mortified.

When I worked in Siem Reap, I had a whole group of sight-impaired and blind people visiting Angkor Wat; they loved it.

You cannot touch the carvings and reliefs but you can touch the walls and outsides of the temples. And I am sure that, if asked nicely, the guards would let a blind person touch a couple of the less fragile carvings.

Either way David and Monty are now in the province , I hope they have a wonderful experience and come back financially and physically healthy.

Blind people tend to have better use of their other senses than the rest of us. However, Cambodia is a different land, with unfamiliar sights, sounds, patterns than back in the West.

Even missus gave me a puzzled look about the girl after hearing this story.

I hope everything works out for the OP.

Being the eternal traveler to the KOW, I personally bring enough cash and don’t use ATMs abroad. And the emergency credit card, for well, emergencies.
