biggest changes in the last 10 years

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

All of those claims are optimistic at best. As for international respect what countries besides China do you have in mind?

I heard that things in Cambodia/things in Phnom Penh were very different 10 years ago. What are the biggest changes that you noticed?
The electricity worked in those days....ah, memories.

To me the biggest changes haven't really been in the past 10 years, the place was already on track to what it is these days by then. The construction has really accelerated over the past 3-4 years though, so it still sometimes surprises me to look across the city from a good vantage point and see so many huge developments. The lakes and wetlands around the city at the well-publicized Boeung Kak and then a large proportion of the far larger Boeung Tumpun, Boueng Pumpey, all the wetlands on Chruoy Changva are now vast sandy deserts with roads and intermittent developments. The roads and drainage are much better now. This has the knock-on effect of encouraging more driving though so the streets are increasingly congested.
It's an easier place to live now, there were very few 24 hour convenience stores 10 years ago ( if any?) and a much more limited area to find foreign-style restaurants in.
Other huge changes, that I guess apply to other countries, is how prevalent the use of Smart Phones rapidly became, in a place where a lot of people don't have a camera or TV, and then recently the rapid adaption to PassApp type rides.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
