If you like books - Absolutely 100%. Huge collection to choose from, brand new books at cheap prices, it a no brainier. I went yesterday and it was quite something, I may go again because there was so much to choose from. Left with $90 worth of books for less than $50.

Not easy to find on Google.
Thx in advance.

Worth it. These are books from the US that are heavily discounted. But it’s far, past the Chroy Changvar Bridge, across from the convention center.PSD-Kiwi wrote:Anyone been? Worth the trek out there?
Foxy lady not included...
But it is big. Tables of books take up the entire floor of the building.
(Photo is about 1/3 of the floor space).
Even a recommended books wall.
There’s a large general section, with an equally large kids section. And a small section of Khmer books in the back row.
The general section has various interests, including a healthy selection of graphic novels (American comics bound into book form). There is a table
of reference books. The kids section has sticker books, music books, drawing books, etc. The Khmer section is English books translated into Khmer as well as kids stories. There is also a Gloria Jean’s Coffee stand, and a button shop. They have a membership club for frequent book buyers as well.
It’s not an expat thing. The majority are young Cambodians. Teens, university, young adults. And not Northbridge/ISPP types. All speaking Khmer. One girl had on a Carl’s Jr. T-shirt and apron, there either after or before work. Sailor suited girls. Moms carrying babies or dad’s pushing strollers. Only one blonde foreigner girl in the entire group.
It seems that the Cambodian youth are English educated and hungry for Western knowledge.

Expats can't read?
If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

Backpackers are probably discouraged. Bar drinking cheapie Charlie also probably discouraged. Smokers and druggies probably also discouraged.Captain Bonez wrote:Expats can't read?
Honestly, I don’t know why more expats aren’t going there.
The reference section is a little thin ... GED review, SAT, AP review. No NCLEX review books, no IELTS review, etc. The general interest selection and kid selection is similar to Barnes and Nobles (although a lot less breadth and depth).

Forgot to post at the time, better late than never.
Spent a good 3 -4 hours at the book sale, place was packed with locals and foreigners (was geared towards everyone, local and foreigner alike, contrary to what NKOTB thought), fantastic deals especially on children's books, heaps of adult fiction, non-fiction, lifestyle, reference, biographies and a good selection of Khmer language books. Walked out with several bags full of books, spent about $350 iirc, well worth it...prices of majority of books ranged from $1 to $4. Would be fantastic if they made this an annual event in Cambodia as we all know what a rip off the bookstores in Cambodia are.

^^ Good to know. It would be great if they make this an annual event. I'm always looking for books in both English and Khmer, especially kid's books. (And yeah, not too expensive is good too.)
