Best New Places To Retire In U.S. And Abroad

Congratulations! After years of hard work, you're about to enter the golden age of retirement. One key consideration: where to live.

Arizona, Florida and Nevada have been popular states to retire in for years, and for good reason. There's plenty of sunshine and a low cost of living, and they're among U.S. states most friendly toward retirees.

But for retirees craving a change of pace from the tried-and-true retirement havens , here are some other options to consider, both here and abroad. From sandy beaches to vibrant culture to affordable health care, there's something for everyone.

First: five countries identified by InternationalLiving.com where retirees can live comfortably on $1,500 a month .

...............snip.....................

Cambodia: If Southeast Asia is more your speed, Cambodia can be another affordable option, with reported monthly costs running as low as $1,200. Rentals range from about $200 to $350 a month in cities like Phnom Penh, which offer modern conveniences. Other perks include restaurant meals for as little as $2.50, 50-cent beers on the beach and $6 manicures.

"Most expats can live comfortably on a budget of around $1,250 to $1,500 a month," Ellie Dyer, who lives in Phnom Penh, said. "It's easy to tailor life to your means, whether that involves eating street food on a shoestring budget or living the high life at luxury hotels like Raffles Le Royale."

Only cheap living in Florida is central, upper parts of the panhandle and for the moment around Cocoa Beach/Melbourne area(where Kelly Slater is from) but not for long.

Nicaragua and Guatemala are still a little dangerous depending where you go, lots of guns still around from the Sandinista/contras and Guatamala's civil war.

Colombia, the women are drop dead gorgeous but unbearable to deal with.
