Best Bank in Cambodia for Foreigners and Why?
Ok, I can't believe this one hasn't been done yet, and I actually need to get a bank account after living here for 3 years, even though I have a damn good hiding spot in my house.
So what is the best bank and why?
I'm considering ABA Bank or Canadia.
And also does anyone know if Canadia bank has any other connections to Canada other than the fact it was started by some people that went there during the KR era and then came back and started it here?

Canadia is Chinese, from memory. We bank there and have no complaints, other than you can't use other ATMs reliably.FreeSocrates! wrote:Ok, I can't believe this one hasn't been done yet, and I actually need to get a bank account after living here for 3 years, even though I have a damn good hiding spot in my house.

I have 2 accounts with ABA. The internet banking is easy to use and transfer money between accounts. I have a Mastercard on one ABA account and use it without issue.
I have 2 accounts as a means of security and only leave a certain amount in the account with Mastercard access whilst the other is an interest bearing account which I can freely transfer money in and out of to the Mastercard account. you can also set limits on the card or receive text & email notifications of pending transactions.
Haven't banked with the others so not certain if they have the same. Just pointing out my ABA with internet banking and customer service has been very good.

On the other hand, our Australian ANZ accounts are suddenly not allowing us to transfer from cash account to credit card, and their official response is that I need to do a wire transfer from overseas. I'm about to suggest to then that we close our portfolio with them if they can't a) understand clear English (everyone I've dealt with so far is a head bobber), and b) get their crap together.

I have ACLEDA and ANZ at the moment. I've also used CPB in the past. They're all fine. ANZ is ridiculously expensive though and seem take themselves too seriously. You want an ATM that can be used internationally? Oh, that'll be 50$/year and you need a minimum of 5000$ or something like that. CPB was fine but I got tired of them not having many ATMs (though I think one can use Canadia ATMs with them). They have a good rate for a Visa card. Service is/was good at all three banks.
ANZ and ACLEDA both have tons of ATMs which is good. ACLEDA are literally everywhere, so even in small villages you can withdraw money from an ATM or just get money transferred if they don't have an ATM. So if you often get out of the major towns that's a bonus. Their rates are ok too, but no longer the best. I'm also considering opening an ABA account simply because their interest rates are higher. You should get an ABA account and report back .

I opened a FD account & savings account about 3 weeks ago at Aba on Monivong. So far the service has been great - the staff speak pretty good English, my Visa debit card arrived in 3 days, i-banking is easy to use and seems secure enough. They have ATMs all over Phnom Penh (everywhere!) and a handful in Sihanoukville & Battambang.
Drawbacks - lack of ATMs in the smaller towns and they charge $5 when you use another bank's ATM

I might do that, apparently they have very good internet banking, at least I think I read that somewhere. I'd really like a bank that is kind of more aimed at international type stuff. Like if I go to another country for 3 months, I can still get my money.
One big problem for me is that Google only pays Publishers via Western Union in Cambodia (but I don't pay any fees they have something worked out with them). Back in Canada I'd get it straight into the account via EFT, and then could use the internet to send it wherever.
Maybe I need to move to Singapore or Malaysia for a few months, setup a business and accounts there, and then be free to roam around with my money flowing easily through internet banking.
