Been waiting over 2 months for work permit

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. Been waiting over 2 months for work permit

Post by xandreu »

Just looking for some advice...

Just over two months ago I extended my visa and applied for a work permit through an agency - I shan't name them just yet. The visa extension came through within a couple of weeks but I'm still waiting for the work permit.

The agency keep saying it's not their fault and apparently I'm not the only one who's been waiting for a long time, but I get the feeling they're just fobbing me off. They never make contact with me to let me know what's happening. It's always me asking them for an update.

Is it normal to have to wait for so long? I know other people who have had theirs returned within two or three weeks. How long am I expected to wait? I can't wait forever, but what else can I do?

Any advice greatly appreciated...

I've been waiting since the second week of January through work. A bunch received theirs just before KNY while a couple of us are still waiting.

I applied using the online system and during the KNY holiday was advised by text and email that my application was declined as my employment letter wasn't stamped by the Ministry of Labor. After the holiday, my employer (but not me) was advised my application was complete and successful and the Ministry was just waiting for me to pay the not-yet-received bill. I'm looking forward to next year when, supposedly, we're supposed to be able to just upload a new medical certificate and pay at the bank.

Yes, although I'm not sure what help it would be. It just shows that I've paid somebody some money to apply for one on my behalf.

The agency told me today that its not a good idea to keep asking the ministry about it as they can cause problems (?) I guess there's not much more I can do apart from sit tight. Reading that others have waited longer than this has put my mind at ease a little.

Thanks for the replies :good:
