He seems concerned that foreign donors will reduce his hospital's funding due to some government honcho announcing possibly dodgy patient numbers? Sounds like a competing, local hospital group is vying for a larger share of those dollars. There is no telling who's figures to believe. I hope all parties mean well an have the patients interests at heart.

Pissing off the government official with stinging public Facebook posts doesn't seem like a the most rational solution...tempting though it may be.

Kantha Bopah hospitals does an awful lot of good on scant resources. I have heard of some less than stellar things about Dr. Richner but all in all the hospitals are doing a HUGE service to poor Cambodians. In many of the indigent wards children sleep 3 and 4 to a bed but they get reasonably good care. I don't think there is anything like this on this scale helping poor Cambodians for free in Cambodia. It almost sounds like a turf war between different factions.

I respect Dr. Beat Richner

I wouldn't have seen my brother walk as other boys if we hadn't had this hospital.
I admit that education and health system is hard to survive in Cambodia,but KTVs and beer garden not only grow but great!!!!!

I think Dr B is a nut case, but does a wonderful job.,,, After years of experience in dealing with 2 year olds, make him perfectly capable of dealing with government officials.

This has been Beat's modus operandi since day dot in the Kingdom - he holds clout with his rhetoric (I've noticed he almost copies the PMs method in some of his ramblings), and it works! He has been saying for a decade, that he can no longer afford to run the hospitals, yet he does - and does a good job! There will be members in the govt who will take note, and do things. But that is not his only audience - he also has a substantial following in his country of birth, as well as several other surrounding nations - and so it is a bit of a cat call for them to continue with their donations etc......
He is a very astute man who knows how to play the game! And good luck to him as I for one am glad for what those hospitals do.

Yeah, he seems to have done a lot of good over the years, but he is also a very prickly sort, maybe even as Duncan said, a "nutcase." And something of a drama queen. He's claimed for years that the UN is involved in an ongoing "genocide" against Cambodian children. No doubt something is happening here, but probably need to dial the shrieking down several notches to get at something like the reality of the situation.

How exactly does he compile his own data? How are his statistics gathered? I'm guessing way more than half children end up being hospitalized elsewhere. Lucky ones would probably end up in KB, but he definitely has an agenda, so it's not like we should take his statistics as gospel. As others have said, it's hard to know who to believe.
