Beach Club Resort Sihanoukville

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

With crappy service....
A couple of years back, I had my decade anniversary going to Sokha. The management upgraded Morticia and I to a VIP room and we got some nice extras as a thank you for continual patronage. We were quite happy....then the stinking mattress that smelled like a fat, chain smoking Chinese guy, terrible service (tried to charge me for Ice Coffee at the free breakfast buffet, the 45 minute wait for a refill on a cocktail)....ya....service.
Breakfast was probably the worst part of my stays there. Service was totally disorganised. That is when there were actually staff present....
Chinese don’t seem to care so much about that.

Last time I stayed there was 4 years ago, before the mainland invasion.

When Sohka SHV first opened, they baked their own snacks/cakes etc, which would go on sale for Riel1500 each after 4pm. One could sit in the largely empty foyer eating cheap cake, free continuous cold water served to you, and a Filipino band taking requests.
At the time, I asked the Filipino sports manager why they didn't offer a monthly deal on the gym. His answer was the Malaysian investors dont care if anyone uses it or not.
I suppose a more direct answer would've been, its priced accordingly to keep riff raff out.
They did eventually come up with a reasonable monthly deal though.
Phase one of Sohka was a very cool and classy development. If only the Cambodians had the long term foresight to maintain that theme in future developments, rather than allow the monstrosities being built now along the beaches.

Can you be more specific? I don’t believe that’s true and that’s not what I’ve experienced.

Enjoyed the place, Luna, Baz, and of course drinking it up large with Tony. I used to feel for Luna watching her every single morning giving her staff almost exactly the same directions for breakfast service time and time and time....

Where did Luna end up? last I heard she had a bad bike accident.

Signs that say CHINESE ONLY seem pretty clear. It's not everywhere, but I think the writing is on the wall. Will be very happy to see if it goes back to "normal" once a few more hotels go up, but the few I and business associates happened by were pretty clearly not welcoming to barang or Khmer.
