Barang Beggar on the Streets of Cambodia

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

If you ever visit the US, you would be shocked by how many homeless beggars we have. I've never been to Sweden, but I've been to other parts of Europe and it isn't even close (even in poorer countries).
I've never been to US and never know that there are many homeless there. I think US is a rich country and spend a lot on weapons and forces, but I don't think that they can't help many homeless in their country.
I used to ask the same questions to barangs, but they are not American. Americans might have different answer.

I said, i wonder if America can spend so much money as military and charity aid to other countries like Afghanistan and Egypt, why can't it helps its homeless people by giving them a shelter or a proper place where they can sleep instead of sleeping on the pathway or under the bridge.

They said, America is a completely different from European countries where homeless people are better being treated. In USA, they like freedom. They believed that it is people's choice to choose to live rough and being homeless. If you are homeless, no one will help you. it is your responsibility to help yourself.
Yes, this is what many, but not all, Americans think. I think they're wrong. People don't choose this, they get stuck and nobody will offer a helping hand. We'd rather spend money bombing children in Afghanistan and Iraq then spend a minute helping the poor in our own backyard. Absolute disgrace.
I don't appreciate with what the government of US treat its homeless people too. They spent so much money in those countries and not to mention people in those countries hate USA so much. i wonder what your other fellow American on CEO think about this.

You see, that is what counts.

Gas money? Sure, I'll wire it.

I was being serious though; he should probably meet with his embassy. I'm sure Switzerland would pay for a ticket back.

I'm not going to go looking for this guy but I'll certainly be looking out for him whenever I'm near the Wat. If he wants help I'll see what I can do.
