Bar Closures in Phnom Penh Over COVID-19?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It really is a cluster fuck of epic dimensions and is going to impact a whole lot on everyone soon, at least economically. Even if Cambodia had zero cases the worldwide lock-downs and travel restrictions would have destroyed the tourist industry and a lot of trade. We're looking at a very messy future.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

I wouldn’t want to be running a bar this week :(

March 18th, 2020.

Virus has been spreading for 3 months, some say 4 months since November.
Cambodia: 0 deaths.
Vietnam: 0 deaths.
Thailand: 1 death.

The odds of dying: 1/70 000 000 population of Thailand, 0 and 0 so far for Cambodia and Vietnam.

Entertainment venues closed or closing in all three countries now.

Just take a moment to think about the workers in this area and the struggle they will be facing.

If you can show any support for people you know in this area please help.

We are in this mess together!!!!
Maybe the Okna and the other stealing fuckwit elites should set up a social security system of $3 a day per person for the next 3 months so at least they, and their children, can eat and keep the lights on.

One of their $1million Rolls Royces pays £3 to 11,111 people for 90 days. If they don't, they might see their pampered lifestyles being ransacked by the masses.

They should send the bill to China. The whole world should be sending the bill to China.

A bit of nuance here: they have ONLY closed the girly bars on Street 172 and maybe one or two venues that could be labeled 'entertainment'. ALL of the restaurants were still running as usual, although they were rather quiet.
And of course no one knows what tomorrow will bring.

But again, please STOP SPREADING FALSE INFO AND RUMOURS, only FACTS.

This is not true. Larry's 110 was visited tonight and closed down by the authorities this evening [Wednesday evening]. This from a pal of mine who was actually in the bar while the authorities visited and told them to close at midnight, until further notice. So if you want FACTS, here is one that counters your nuances. 136/130/118 et al have all been 'closed down'. Whether they actually obey is another thing. but the FACTS are that they are all being closed. So tomorrow (today, my time) will "see your "let's see what tomorrow brings'". and I'll raise you a "Larry's is shut down"...

Additionally, we can help the staff of these businesses by donating the money we would have spent, and add some more.
Perhaps donate to the proprietors as well.
English teachers and other expats should donate money to girlie bar owners forced to close? Are you insane?

There's no reason to close pools if they are properly chlorinated.
