Re: Bangkok vs Phnom Penh
I'd rather live in Bangkok than Phnom Penh. I never found myself bonding with PP in any way and was really glad to get out of there. I agree that Thailand offers a better standard of life for your money - beer and smokes may cost more but everything else costs less and accommodation in major destinations is leaps and bounds better at any price point than it is in Cambodia.

Many reason I might choose Bangkok but one reason I will choose PP is the clear blue sky in Phnom Penh.

Methed taxis forcing you to buy shirts from their cousins. Public transportation and taxis that reject you for wanting to travel "too far". Rabid dogs and transvestites on every corner. Random drug tests lead by a corrupt police force. Military junta in command and a half-dead king. Wannabe thugs conspiring with the police against you. If they don't find what they want they plant it. The last time I went I stood 2 hours in line just to buy a ticket to the goddamn BTS. That was years ago. Some pizza company is still spamming my inbox with no option to stop.
On the other hand. Annoying crooked tuk tuk mafias. Bargirls thinking they're the shit quoting you $100 for their Anchor belly. Landlords thinking their one room apartments are worth $500 per month. Dumbass tenants agreeing and paying those prices. Fat NGO chicks and other random save-the-world types. People photographing you for buying bracelets from street kids and registering you as a possible pedophile. Large groups of tourists photographing you when you exit your alley in the morning. Meth heads threatening you in bars for looking at them bad and everybody is ex navy, ex NSA or ex CIA. Taxis are cheaper than tuktuks.
Do I need to say which paragraph describes which city?

I always travel by bus in SE Asia because it's cheaper than airplanes. I was wondering about the bus service in Cambodia. I heard that there are buses from Boi Pet to Phnom Penh from early morning until 10 am. After that, the only way to get around is by taxi. Is that true? What is price?
Has anyone made the trip from Trat province to Shinoukville? How many bus and boat connections does it take? What are the prices?
