Bangkok vs Phnom Penh

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

i have many thai friends that would and have, stuck up for me over other thai's and gone to bat for me numerous times and many of my Farang friends have good thai friends as well.

I do agree not all thai's give a shit
Had a thai partner ( ex border patrol on the Cambodian border in 87-88) and he told me Never to trust him as thai's dont trust each other.

There good ones and bad ones, same same as everywhere

if the tourists stick to the tourist places and keep their nose clean its rare they would encounter any trouble
tell that to the parents of David Miller and Hannah Witheridge killed in Koh Tao
Read my post again.I was only pitying the others expats that don't see behind the picture, not you. You explained your reasons for living there on many occasions and I always found them coherent. However I wondered how you can get along with most thai expats that are as blind about their host country as one can be.

OK;
I DON'T, i have my expat an thai friends, don't drink in bars so seldom meet people i don't know anymore.

If u read thai visa u will see most expats hate living here, (they have a current poll on those leaving or leaving soon, Phuket and it is running 59 leaving to 24 staying)

I have no idea why most Expats stay EXCEPT for the reason they cant go ( afford to) anywhere else and if u have a pension, Thailand is better and cheaper ( an to me, a better quality of life ) to live in than Cambodia . not to mention the medical care.

I think if they've mad etheir money in an unethical way, perhaps they are mor einclined to turn into arseholes than someon who eraned it in an ethical way, guilt and insecurity.

I've met quite few rich peopel who worked very hard to get their money and never screwed anyone over, they're still rmeianed nice people.

If you said most who put on a uniform, the % may be higher, but I doubt even most of them.

Wow... That puts a recent similar poll on 440? under new light (can't retrieve thread sorry). Results were overwhelmingly positive.

i dont trust most of TA as i see that many Negative reviews are deleted.( i have had more than a fair share of mine deleted)
The mods there are very strict

BUT than again destinations is not same as living

Having lived in PP, i would never choose to return there to live

But do find sr would be (for us) the best place to move to in Cambodia
PLUS and its a big plus, she has family with lots of land up there :-)
