Backup Generators In Rental Properties

So I've been searching realestate.com.kh for places to rent in SR and discovered some places have backup generators.

Has anyone experienced these? I have to be online at certain times and frequent power outages are going to piss off my boss's pretty quickly!!

I'm wondering if landlords just advertise this but they never work or its just lame.

My first action to a power cut is probably going to coworking space as Im assuming their generators are probably top notch, but it's just nice to work from home as much as possible.

in a power outage it is quite likely the internet will not work anyway, depending on how big an area is affected. usually 4g still works so keep your phone charged up and use it as a hotspot. maybe use 2 sims as ell in case one networks tower is out. i think the telephone network is somehow isolated from the main network so it seem to work even if the electric is off otherwise. With regards to condo backup generatrs they may ormay not be big enough for number of rooms and they may or may not be turned on depending on length of outage, whether there is any diesel in them and whethr or not the boss uthorises using them. Where I lived one block had agennie that came on withing 5 minutes of power going out, anotherhad onethat I never heard running

Usually the buildings do have generators. If the building is big and new, they usually have it setup so, that when grid goes offline, generator starts automatically within second or two. You want to get an USP power brick that you plug between your modem/router. This way when the power goes out for second, your modem/router gets the power from UPS so your internet doesn't get interrupted. In my experience, if the power outage is not planned long outage like last spring but usual "short" outage, the internet works fine whole time. I do work online and the only problems I have had encountered with this setup were last spring when the planned outages happened. But those are announced day or weeks early so on those days when there is planned outage you can go work in coffee shop or co-working space that is located in different neighbourhood.

In my apartment, the generator kicks in after about ten minutes. My laptop will easily get me through Much more than that, so it's never been a problem. I just plug my phone into my laptop via USB and use it for internet as mentioned above.

My phone internet is faster than the wifi included with my apartment anyway, and data is so cheap here, that I just use my phone sometimes anyway. I spend $1/week on Smart plan data and usually use about half of it even with using it for laptop internet occasionally throughout the week(I don't do any high speed downloading on phone internet). Power outages just really aren't a problem if you have a decent apartment with a generator. Even if you didn't have a generator, you could just buy a big laptop power bank and use your phone for internet. Though you'd be miserable in the heat...

That is awesome info, thank you very much. I will definitely look into laptop power banks. I think having multiple options is good so I need to play it safe and have as many fallbacks as possible.
