To meet and hang out with similar people to themselves probably. I think I was about 21 last time I used a dorm. After that, you don't have so much in common, so no point really.

there is a new wave of flashpackers about over recent years that want to be hippy but come with a wad of cash, kind of defeats the object really, they mainly stick to thailand though, thank god

its all the same people that ruined the Festival scene in england, now theyve got bored of that the new cool thing to do is go "Traveling", they feel like its traveling because theyre used to a 1 week blow out in Ibiza or Magaluf, and theres also "culture n shit"

i met a new guy from Wales the other night actually whilst i was waiting for some food, only been in town a day or 2 so i took him under my wing and shew him all around SHV and introduced him to some of my friends, and 1 actually gave him job at their bar, think he might stick around a while

its coming on along well, picked up a fair few new words since being back and can hold conversations better than i could before, im currently in PP for a few nights boxing and for the k440 meet up thats meant to be happening tomorrow,
when i get back to shv im getting in touch with a khmer tutor that a few people gave me the details for to try and get me learning some more advanced stuff, if anyone wants his details drop me a pm and i will forward them on, ive had a few people recommend him

1. Umm... yeah, the tragedy of the infantilization of the world.
2. No, the point of going to a boarding school and staying in a dorm is so that you never, ever have to share again afterwards. The character development bit is supposed to turn you into someone who can earn a decent salary and provide for themselves in style - mainly because you learn how shit living with other people actually is.

Quite possibly. No, I was a scholarship kid in one of the world's most expensive schools. Both my parents started life on council estates (in my mother's case - she was also a post-world war immigrant kid) and neither (until incredibly recently - mum was in her late 50s when she finished her degree) was a university graduate. I was taught to work as a kid and make things happen if I wanted them. I've never used the old school tie to get a job or even open a door to a job (though I did once use it to rent a house when I was a long-haired metalhead in my youth) either.

No idea.... I've been out of SR for 3 months (in CM in Thailand now). I hear that this has been a really bad high season for expat/Western tourist facing bars, clubs and restaurants in SR and that yes, it's Chinese package tourists and that's about it for the tourism industry. I suspect that they got a big boost when the whole "Angkor Wat must be seen!" thing kicked off a few years ago but that the people - who do that kind of tourism - have pretty much all done it now. There's not much repeat visit potential in Siem Reap (and I really love the place) when all is said and done. It needs more actual attractions than the temples to deliver that and while Koh Ker, Banteay Chhmar, Preah Vihear, etc. are all awesome - most people don't like temples enough to base a return on the promise of different temples either.
