Family looking for Austrian man 'missing' in Pakse, Laos

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Family looking for Austrian man 'missing' in Pakse, Laos

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Austrian man Elias Zanki has not made contact with his family for a week. Last seen in Pakse, Laos, but could be in Cambodia or Thailand by now. He could also be meditating in a hammock on the 4000 Islands with no internet or up on the Bolaven plateau somewhere off the track.

Jesus, when I was that guy's age I'd disappear for months with no way of contacting my family. Today, a cry for help goes out when he/she hasn't FB'ed/Twittered/WhatsApped for 20 minutes.

Well done. I can see the Daily Mail headlines from here: Missing tourists are feeding Cambodian sausage factory, says expat forum.

He is in prison according to Vientiane Social on Facebook. Happy baccy related. If he's gone to jail for that it's because he's refusing to pay a fine (or can't) or he had a shit load of it and it's a bit more serious.

The Daily Mail would only care if it were white females.

It seems the missing man was arrested in Thakhek, Laos, but is probably now in Vientiane awaiting trial. The offense is cannabis related, but no further details. The Embassy has been contacted.
