Aussies attempting to leave Cambodia (Covid 19)
Aussies attempting to leave Cambodia (Covid 19)
Hi everyone, I am not sure if I am breaking any rules, or where I should post this information, however I'd like to reach out to any Australians currently stranded in Cambodia wishing to return home. Unfortunately our embassy in Phnom Penh has little advice. A Facebook group was started 2 days ago and is growing in numbers steadily. Please visit https://www.facebook.com/groups/2536681 ... 3949855023
The group is gathering the details and numbers of citizens (my husband included) to submit to our politicians etc. Some members are contacting Australian media. The more interest, the better.
Any advice or sharing would be much appreciated.

Welcome Snap.
For sure you can post here. I'm not sure if we have any hot new tips for you on how to get back to Australia, but here are two threads on general coronavirus travel problems, and on foreigners getting out of Cambodia.
There is a general thread on traveling difficulties here : the-road/travelling-times-coronavirus-t ... ml#p400816
Thread on foreigners stuck in Cambodia here: general-chatter/german-tour-group-peopl ... 36962.html
It might also be worth contacting the Brits on facebook for advice on how they organized a citizens' charter flight to the UK.

Best of luck. CEO.NOTE: If you are a British tourist stranded in Cambodia, the Facebook group “Stranded in Cambodia UK” is offering excellent help and advice here

I'm not even Australian, but have seen that your embassy has already advertised the last two remaining routes to Oz. One is through China and they warn that you might get quarantined through either route (the other is Indonesia I think), but they still strongly advise taking these flights as there might be no options for a while after these close. Just check your embassy's Facebook or something.

Indonesia has banned foreign arrivals and transits.

Sorry, it was via Malaysia, but that's been axed. Three hours ago they posted that there's a new flight path via Asians/Seoul. Better jump on it and hope it doesn't get cancelled...

Re: Aussies attempting to fly out of Cambodia
out of interest, and having seen the info on your group with it saying the embassy has over 300 registered to try to leave, with all due respect, why have so many left it so late to try to return? It seems a lot of westerners have left this, and not just in Cambodia, until the very last minute when it seemed clear the signs were to get out in early March and are now placing responsibility on Embassies.beauevans wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:56 pm https://www.facebook.com/groups/253668 ... ?ref=share

Good luck to everyone in getting home, though I daresay that Cambodia may well be safer to stay if you can than a lot of the countries people are returning to!

Re: Aussies attempting to fly out of Cambodia
Aussies need to rush home so they don't miss out on the Australian government throwing money at everyone as they try to prop up the economy.
Edited to not be so god damn dramatic.

But maybe not safer if you happen to get the virus.angkorjohn2 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 01, 2020 6:34 pmout of interest, and having seen the info on your group with it saying the embassy has over 300 registered to try to leave, with all due respect, why have so many left it so late to try to return? Always "hope" but never "expect".
