Re: Aussies attempting to leave Cambodia (Covid 19)
I saw some people asking what hotel they will be staying at in Sydney for the mandatory 14 day quarantine.. like, I won't go unless it's 5 star..John Bingham wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 11:13 pmI saw some posts on these "stranded" groups a week or two back. They were saying they were in Sihanoukville/ Kampot and asking if it was really necessary to go to the capital to catch their "evacuation"flights. Da fuq?

Stranded Aussies and Singaporeans get to fly home
A specially arranged commercial flight for joint repatriation of Australians and Singaporeans from Phnom Penh International Airport via Singapore to Australia, left the Kingdom at 3.35 pm yesterday.
The Singapore Airlines flight SQ 191, transited in Singapore’s Changi International Airport for approximately two hours, allowing Singaporeans to disembark before continuing onto Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport.
The flight held approximately 250 passengers, bulk of whom were Australians who had been stuck in Cambodia since the introduction of severe travel global restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic approximately two months ago. The flight was considered a “special consideration’’ by all authorities under current travel restriction arrivals in both Singapore and Australia.
Peter Gillard, who had created the Facebook group ‘’Aussies stuck in Cambodia’’ to assist stranded Australian citizens get out of Cambodia, told Khmer Times yesterday the process had gone as smoothly as one would expect and everybody was just relieved and happy to have a confirmed seat back home.
“We are, of course sad to see them leave the Kingdom as many have deep roots here, but I believe many will return once this virus situation is over. For the moment, we are just happy to return them to their families in Australia,’’ Mr Gillard said.
Some Australian citizens arrived at the airport almost six hours before the planned departure time with many stating they “did not want to take any chances and miss the flight’’.
Khmer Times also spoke with a group of Australian tourists waiting to board and they said the flight had given them a lifeline, bringing an end to “two months of hell.’’
The tourists said they had previously purchased several tickets with commercial airlines only to have them all cancelled at the last minute.

Yea, it's good to see an Embassy helping it's citizens. Something I hope they remember for in the future . Giving advice is not help, . Giving face to face help is really appreciated when citizens are in trouble and want help . Getting past security or even making appointments can be very distressing to those who need help from staff locked behind a wall of security.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

A man has been found dead in his hotel room during forced coronavirus quarantine.
The recently returned traveller's body was discovered on Saturday afternoon inside a hotel room at South Wharf, in Melbourne's CBD.
It is understood the man's death was due to self-harm and Victoria Police confirmed they were not treating the death as suspicious.
