Attending a Khmer wedding

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I hardly think criticising one aspect of Khmer culture (weddings) equates to being 'so negative' or 'hate'.

Every culture has negative and positive points, no person thinks any place is perfect, I hope.

The traffic here is insane, as are noise levels, you will learn that. It doesn't mean we hate the country.

The wedding epitomized everything I love about being around Khmers

Steady now Roz, you'll upset the good old boys (barstool bandits) with that sort of positivity! It's important to them that you be negative too, but not quite as negative as they as you haven't completed your apprenticeship yet! Sadly it's a balancing act - just be happy you're not on the other forum, you'd have been shredded for your gender offenses. :D

I get that Cambodia isn't perfect but what's the point of whining about it. I didn't move to a new country so it could be the same as home.

Awesome! If you didnt have white skin, I would think you are Cambodian woman. You look comfortable with Khmer traditional dress. :Rose:
Thank you!!!
I feel there's no point moving to a new culture if you aren't going to embrace it.
We learnt to say Congratulations on your wedding (at least I hope that's what we learnt to say lol) and used our other Khmer words which aren't many yet but at least we are trying. :)
Before the wedding they called me an Australian Apsara but at the reception my friend says to me - "No more Apsara Australie- You Khmer Apsara now :)"
So yes, I am now Khmer :)
Glad you enjoy it :) my culture is not perfect or better than others but I'm happy that you enjoy with good experience :))

It's way better than home, especially in regard to crime.

Agree with SC the bum-chums would have shredded you.
