Attacked with Machete at Cooking Class (apparently)

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Attacked with Machete at Cooking Class (apparently)

Post by PSD-Kiwi »

From the "Expat Food Shaming Cambodia" FB Group.

Posted by the admin of the group, I am inclined to believe there is a lot more to this story, whether it's even true or not. He constantly writes shit reviews of meals he's had, mainly in Kampot, but refuses to name the restaurants in question.

EDITED TO ADD: The poster has now stated that he copied the post from a review on trip advisor, and it was not his experience.
Holly shit Kampot.

After reading the positive reviews my partner and I did the cooking class today. Long story short, the chef and owner Soklim ended up threatening us with a machete (causing cuts on my hand and arm) and hitting my chest with the blade. This was in response to us paying him the $30 bill with a $20 bill which had a small corner tear (which we didn't even notice)! He got furious after we iniststed that the bill would be fine- threatening to keep our motorcycle as ransom. He then got his assistant to guard our bike and ran to his shed and grabbed a full sized machete which he then used as a weapon to hit me with. Luckily I had a different $20 bill which I could give him. My partner was incredibly upset and we had to flag down another motorcycle. He was abosolutely out of control and unstable. Stay away and go to one of the many other cooking classes offered nearby where the staff will not assault and threaten you. We were very lucky- and the situation could have been much worse. We have both travelled extensively and have never felt so unsafe. We proceeded to file a police report but felt it was important to share this with other travellers immediately

Yea, the guy who posted it is now saying that it was from a Trip advisor review, not his personal experience.

The one you quoted was copied from a 2016 review here https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserRev ... vince.html

I quoted his post, he then later said in the comments that it was from TripAdvisor, like I just said in my post above yours. Cheers for the link.

So the user copied from a review from TripAdvisor where the reviewer paid $20 when the bill was $30? Who does that? Backpackers?

Also where can I get a shit meal in Kampot?

All the times I’ve eaten there have been good to excellent.

not only that they tried to palm off a shoddy bill when they had a perfectly fine $20 bill in their wallet, but also tried convincing a native that you can in fact pay with torn notes in Cambodia, when most people know, or eventually find out, you cant/pain in the ass
