ATM in Sihanoukville Giving Out False Bank Notes ?

Don't know about false bank notes, never seen one. ATM don't use them here.
But I was in the bank last week making a small withdrawal. The cashier was speaking well in English, so the conversation went towards when a friend left sihnaoukvilla and withdraw all his money from the bank. I had wrote about that in another thread. Anyway as it was, I asked her if she had come across any US dollars with small casino stamps om them. I checked the notes back and front as I received them. Yes one of the notes had a stamp so I asked for it too be changed. That was in Kampong Cham. My friend had just under 2.000 dollars worth from over the counter in SHV and didn't check. When he tried to deposit them in another bank they refused them.

Why are the stamps a problem?

Yes the banks are treating them as the same "damaged notes". That particular bank, where my friend wanted to open an account with a larger sum of the @2000usd stamped notes was refused. He eventually did get them changed elsewhere at a percentage loss.

This problem will need to be addressed ASAP as the casinos expand operations.

i was in the main ABA in sv abt 4 years ago, and a barang came in with some 100's he ( said he got )from the atm out front that were dodgy. he was making quite a fuss.
manager was completely in denial.
these reports are very persistent.
i use ABA in PP and have found them to be very good.

Do banks keep records of $100 bill serial numbers they place in ATMs? A staffer at CPB told me they did, but I find it hard to believe they would have the time, I think they load them up with $50K at a time.

yep. they get scanned in by those counting machines that reject fakes.

Even small money changing places have bill counting scanners now, at least the one I use does.

strange , i deposited 500$ in 50$’s into the cash in machine at ABA about a year ago for a friend who brought them from england , they looked ok to me & accepted by the cash in machine , no problem , but the bank called me up and had me to come in and buy them back . no reason .
not old or torn but felt ‘ funny ‘ , like they got wet once and dried out — i and the machine knew they were good but the money changers wouldnt take them . luckily i knew somebody going back to

so they took them back there and it wasnt a problem . but i cant understand why a small casino stamp would affect the validity of a $ bill.
