ATM cash money $$ during lockdown

Post by Matty9999 »

Just in case anyone is looking for info on traveling to an ATM during lockdown I was successfully able to do that today through a barricade. I heard some ATMs are out. I went to one inside a Tela Gas station, but later on I went a few blocks to an ABA and withdrew money. The ATM is in service but the bank branch is closed. It was in USD with an american TM debit card mastercard.

I withdrew from an ABA ATM inside Super Duper at BKK1 (street 57) sans drama. Luckily it's just a block away from where I live. Super convenient.

Yeah with the banks closed, I presume the ATM's won't get reloaded and hence will eventually run out. Do we know when the banks are reopening?

The other options then are debit/credit cards and ABA Pay at supermarkets and minimarts that accept them.

We already withdrew next month's rent/electric and set it aside just in case. And a few hundred extra in case we can no longer get to the grocery store (where I use a credit card to pay). The ATM I usually use was down to 100s and 10s.

Such a lockdown is an excellent time to go cashless, whenever possible.

Correct. In essence cash is only used in illicit and immoral trading, such as bars, prostitution, drugs, weapons and explosives

Not in Cambodia. Most credit cards are useless except for cash machines/ ATMs.

As has been stated, an ideal time to change to a more transparent system where criminals and alcoholics are identified and punished.

What?

I keep a reserve of cash, small bills and large bills. During the lockdown, I almost ran out.

Cash is king in troubled times. Credit cards can be rejected. Power and networks can go out, then bye bye Apple Pay.

I had no problems during the lockdown getting restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations etc., to accept cash. Most of the small places even welcomed it. Cash is immediate funds to pay a bank loan. And no middlemen from VISA, or MasterCard taking a cut.

Only post-lockdown are these cashless places opening up.

Just my opinions.

Please stay safe out there!
