Re: ATM cash money $$ during lockdown
The reason I use cash is that ive got a USA bankcard that charges fees for foreign transactions, hefty to, I also have a credit card but the card itself needs to be replaced because the magnetic stripe is not working, so eventually ill have to get a replacement, not sure how thats going to work, perhaps i can have a relative send it.

That's the way I did it, used DHL. The sender has to sign a form the card isn't activated yet, otherwise they will refuse it.Matty9999 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 25, 2021 3:12 pm The reason I use cash is that ive got a USA bankcard that charges fees for foreign transactions, hefty to, I also have a credit card but the card itself needs to be replaced because the magnetic stripe is not working, so eventually ill have to get a replacement, not sure how thats going to work, perhaps i can have a relative send it.

It's difficult to think of a place in PP now that doesn't have one of those ABA (or other banks) QR codes next to the till that you simply scan with your phone. Or even better, the card reader devices that personalise your QR code on the display so you don't even have to type in the amount.
I don't think anything should ever replace cash. People should always have the ability to use cash if they wish. And as someone who normally keeps a keen eye on anything that risks people's privacy, I kind of hate myself for not using cash more, but damn it's just so convenient leaving the house to go shopping with only your phone and keys in your pocket.

This is just nonsensical fear mongering, as far as the current pandemic is concerned. I've been using cashless payment options more often, to reduce the number of times I have to accept filthy change. I haven't encountered any outages of any of the cashless payment options I'm using, but yes, I do still carry cash as a backup even when I plan to pay cashless. That is just common sense.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Sat Apr 24, 2021 8:58 pmWhat?
I keep a reserve of cash, small bills and large bills. During the lockdown, I almost ran out.
Cash is king in troubled times. Credit cards can be rejected. Power and networks can go out, then bye bye Apple Pay.
I had no problems during the lockdown getting restaurants, supermarkets, gas stations etc., to accept cash. Most of the small places even welcomed it. Cash is immediate funds to pay a bank loan. And no middlemen from VISA, or MasterCard taking a cut.
Only post-lockdown are these cashless places opening up.
Just my opinions.
Please stay safe out there!
I've been in Bangkok throughout this pandemic, with occasional trips elsewhere within Thailand. I doubt I would have handled this differently in Cambodia - I already used Wing, ABA and card payments before the pandemic while in Cambodia. When I read that people pay their rent in cash, in 2021, it makes me laugh.

I still pay my rent in cash. My landlord is from the Jurassic age. 60+ years old. Stores all his cash at home (I know because every time I pay the rent or when he needs money, he goes somewhere to either hide it or get it.)
For everything else, I have my credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, my ABA, Wing and my DKB account in Germany. And my Trezor (bitcoin).
