Most of the long termers are Teflers though, so what do you suggest they do?

Hopefully they have enough saved up for 2-3 months living expenses, so they can find a very cheap room and eat 3 plates of pork rice per day.

Maybe they won't be able to live like they're used to for a few months until working again.

many foreigners my partner works with live from day to day their employers don't respect the contract

Workers here are paid twice a month, it's been a law for more than a year. Many TEFLers are part time rather than on a contract so when the schools shut down they get nothing. I used to work as one many years ago.

Even the online teaching companies with the highest turnover rates have stopped hiring due to application influxes. If you have an online job of any sort, hold on to it tightly while it lasts.

I teach science online to young students. Totally swept off my feet with students from many countries (not just in Asia). My lesson calendar is booked up solid until the end of May...

It will be interesting to see if/how the pandemic alters the demand for certain jobs. My guess is lots of people are learning how to code right now.

yes, I guess that's an option - sounds pretty boring though. At least in a classroom you can have some interaction and a laugh or two.
