Ai ya, I just copy and paste. Thanks, I don't know how to do that fancy stuff. I just barely figured out how to re-size a pic.

Actually I think villages might do well to encourage some older expats to settle there. Would improve the economy and job prospects. Western products stores, translators/guides/fixers, motodops, restaurants, bars guesthouses upgrades and so on. Thereby having the best of both worlds and retaining most of the village feel and possible retaining more of the youth.

In my part of Takeo the drift to Phnom Penh has slowed noticeably in the last year. This has resulted from factories opening up in the province. Mini buses pick up the workers in the morning and drop them home in the evening.Several who were working in Phnom Penh have returned since this commenced.StroppyChops wrote:After spending some time in Takeo Province recently, I hope not. I was visiting a village with a couple of teacher mates, and we were seriously discussing that apart from health and education, the kids in the village have a far happier life than in the city.0to60 wrote:.
Stroppy I'm devastated, you were in Takeo, but didn't come visit.

I was a third wheel, 'Man, but next time, I promise.
I don't have any better solutions than textile factories but I hate them. Good to hear that in this situation at least, they're having a positive benefit.

Vega was a very small desert town until the mafia came and built casinos. Then it blossomed. No planning involved. Las Vegas is an excellent example of urban sprawl.
From what I have seen. The girls who go to PP to work in the factories usually return home. In Kampong Chhnang the wages are lower than PP but after expences and lack of family they are usually happy to return home. The development that is going on on road #5 between pp and Kampong Chhnang is a bit disterbing. Massive development of factories and little to no development of infrastructure.
picooie.

i've been in several rural areas of china.
they have very good reasons to pack their bags and move along, some of the poorest villages looked like relics from the middleages.
they were literally living in caves and covered in shit ... especially in rural Tibet and Gansu, like goign back in time a few centuries ago.
