APT in Sihanoukville cancelled. WTF?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. APT in Sihanoukville cancelled. WTF?

Post by Nomad »

The APT Poker Tournament has been cancelled. A lost opportunity to say the least. I wonder why. Who screwed it up? I had already paid for an airline ticket to Phnom Penh and was planning to stay in Sihanoukville for 10 days but looks like I'll spend my time in PP. If there're any players who know of new games in PP, I'd appreciate a PM. Thanks and be safe.

You can borrow my hat as it always attracts people who are interested in poker games.

Head down to the Red Fox on street 136. They have games most nights.

Some decent players as well.

Something to do with China getting poorer and Russian mobsters taking a lower profile perhaps?

Honestly from what I've heard from several tourney players there is that they get treated like shit here. No comped meals, sometimes no food even brought to the table, etc.

Several last time one was in town while I was down there were at Charlie Harper's bar to get reasonably priced food/drinks during their down time and were discussing complaining to the tournament heads about it. Maybe it finally reached a point where players were refusing to come.

There are some good games every day in the rooms above the Exchange restaurant in French Street north of Wat Phnom. By invitation only but I imagine if you asked downstairs in the restaurant they would give you access.

Thanks all for the info. Already knew about the Fox. Will definitely check out the Exchange, hopefully a little higher stakes than the Fox.

If you want games that start early, then you should check out river king. They were close for a couple of months, but now they have reopen at a new location in the Comfort Star 2 Hotel. Smaller than their old place but it's decent for the size. room has 3 tables. pretty good action.

Listing illegal gambling spots publicly like this is a great way to make them shut down, jfyi.
