Anyone ever actually take a Khmer girl to the US?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. Not that it matters but, GF is 19. She moved to Phnom Penh just after her 18 birthday. I met her a month later. We've been together about 18 months since. We travel every month. Sometimes twice a month. Phnom Penh is pretty boring and she wants to see the world, so it's a good fit for both of us. You can be in Thailand or Vietnam in an hour or two, stay five or six days, and come home. It's not too hard.

Getting a visa for the US on the other hand seems to be very hard. I'm hearing the same as JohnLeonard. Even some really well off Khmer guys are being denied. Apparently Cambodia is on some list of countries with a high risk of non return. I guess they get to America and don't want to leave. I don't blame them.

Just because you can afford a visa means nothing. There are lots of requirements by country. For example Australia doesn't admit people with criminal records (they fear the competition I guess?). Iran doesn't admit people with Israel stamps in their passports. Canada doesn't admit drunk drivers.

I was just wondering if anyone here has ever successfully taken a Khmer woman to America that they weren't married to. No one has, ever? Is there really no way? Even if I bought land and put it in her name and put 50K in her bank account she still has absolutely no chance?
P.S.
How was you trip with the Thai GF in USA? Some people have good some people have bad experience bringing hot young asian to usa
Thai GF was 20 at the time. Both trips went well, one in spring and one in fall. Then again, we're talking about a well off and somewhat experienced girl from the city, not a bar girl or a farmer. She spoke English fluently, studied under all foreign teachers, had mostly foreign friends, grew up in a secular home, carried a gun, drove a car, not religious, not superstitious, no ghost house or pictures of king in her dwelling, didn't go to temples or tie magical strings on her hands, didn't eat Thai food three meals a day every day. So it wasn't all that much of a transition for her. Most people we met thought she was Asian American unless told otherwise.

Anyway we did two tours. First was New York to the Grand Canyon and back by car. So she saw a lot of the country. We went hiking, berry picking, swimming in natural lakes and rivers. Fun stuff. Second tour we did Los Angeles to Washington. Not as eventful.

The only problem was the first few days. We stopped for fast food twice. The first time she ate it she vomited. The second time she had a stomach ache that lasted two days. So obviously, no more fast food!

I have heard of people doing it with wives. I also know a Khmer lady in her late 20's who used to work at a Street 51 late night bar who recently went with her boyfriend, but I think it may have been on a "business trip."

Your GF's very young age works against her. It's an age at which women are commonly trafficked and an age at which women will want to start their lives and find a place to settle down. Her being from the provinces and not having fancy job or education also works against her.

The embassy will know that you are taking her on the trip and paying for everything, so they will be interested in what reason do you have to return to Cambodia (with her). Do you have years of stability in a good job that ties you to Cambodia, etc.

Their concern will be that you guys are trying to do an end around to circumvent the lengthy K-1 fiance visa vetting process and that you will take her to the USA and stay there with her and get married and then adjust her status to get her a green card. Or that she'll go there with you on holiday and do a runner from you.

I think a longer holiday to nicer countries, Western countries, and countries that require her to have a visa would help. Since you guys like to travel, I think you should take her first to Macau, Hong Hong, and Dubai,. Those should be easy enough. Then China proper. Then Japan. Then maybe Australia, New Zealand, or Europe. Then apply to take her on holiday to the USA.

No interest in going to Australia or England even if it was free. New Zealand wouldn't be bad, but you have to stop in Australia, so again no. The Thai GF I mentioned? Broke up with her because she moved to Europe for work. I refused to follow. China is an idea but it seems tough to get a visa there too actually. We tried for Japan. It was possible, but you have to map out literally every minute of your plans to get the visa. Like:

1:05 arrive
1:06-1:46 travel by train to hotel
1:47-4:00 shopping in Asakura

etc

FUCK THAT

I don't know if going to parts of China like Hong Kong or Macau would help with a future US application at all. Do you have any evidence of that? How would it show any intention of return? Are you sure you know what you're talking about? I'm pretty sure we actually don't have any space on a visa application for sponsorship by a US citizen. They have to get approved on their own merit. My Thai GF never mentioned me at all in her application over in Thailand. There was no space to do it even if she wanted to.

ur best bet and most likely the only way u will get her to the US, is on a tour with other Khmer's and you can tag along.

OR as the official in San Jose immigration told my ex wife and me to help speed up her green card application, is travel to Mexico and pay a coyote to bring her across.

Interesting idea about the group tours. I seriously dislike any group tours, but that could be an avenue. Thanks Rich!

There is some culture shock with taking a hot Khmer to the west. Up here in the provinces the locals are red necks. We walked the kids from the car into school the other day and copped it from an older bloke in a ute. As we were getting in the car he yelled from across the road, "how much did you pay for that". On another occasion at the local club a middle aged couple at an adjoining table discussed loudly how offensive it was to see an old bloke with a hot Asian missus. Even the kids understood what was going on.
Older women especially just hate it.

Western women date older guys for money and that is socially accepted if not normal in the west.

Switch it the other way and its offence all of a sudden.
