any violence towards foreigners in Cambodia?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Famous last words mate. With that attitude, it's just a matter of when, not if.
A good mate of mine,a Scotsman, one of the hardest men I have ever met, in fact the only man I have met here that actually WAS ex para, was targeted one night. He came out ok, but only just. Don't fall for your own legend mate, you have no where to go but down if you do.
To many barangs here at the moment falling in to the trap of "We are bigger, so we are tougher". This is what caused the problems starting in Indonesia 15 years ago and more recently Thailand. Guess who is winning in Indo and Thailand today? Not us.
The delightful paranoia of a complete cretin. Yes, Thailand is a haven of anti-farang violence and it's a miracle that we manage to walk the streets unscathed. Of course, the fact that Sihanoukville is a violent hot bed of human scum in which you are far more likely to be attacked by a white guy than a brown one will now be brushed aside too.

Thailand was never a safe place, mates of mine sometimes got into scrapes with people like taxi drivers. I remember one fight when the driver was using a wheel brace as a weapon. But neither country is as dangerous as Australia or NZ on a Saturday night. NZ has always been very violent going back to the sixties. And then there is Glasgow back in the day with lots of thugs with knives.

And I am pretty sure that most of the time it was the Farang kicking off shit. Plenty of times I have seen some foreigner trying to shove it down some local's throat, only to get beaten to the ground. But that is not violence towards foreigners, that is violence towards dickheads.

And some really paranoid people on this thread, more than 20 years in SE Asia and the only times I got into scrapes was with fellow whiteys.

Has anything to do with the topic at hand.

I do agree asshole backpackers and loud obnoxious wankers attract more negative attention.

Me myself never had dramas in 7 years of South East asia.

Actually no Hanno, these falangs weren't drunk or stupid. Altercations happened in daylight and it was often over taxi fares. We had lived in Thailand for a long time and spoke Thai pretty well but we were young and didn't cop any shit. The taxi mafia in Thailand have always been vicious and didn't like being called out, it's still the same today I think. I like the Thai, they are aggressive.
We had a mate who had been in Long Bay and killed a warder in the riots, he didn't cop any shit from Thais at all. He used to steal cars and race the police, he never got caught. These were the days before mass tourism in Thailand and it was a totally different world to anything we see today. The Americans had been gone for only a few years but the Germans filled the gap. Most residents and tourists were German in the late seventies, those bastards are always in first. So many girls went to Germany at that time.

Yeah well, I have been a regular in Thailand for 20+ years and never even had a hint of trouble. But then I tend to try and avoid trouble and have often times left a place as I felt things were getting hot. And for every fight between Thai and foreigner, I have seen 10 foreigner on foreigner.
