A missile fired from another airplane is a whole other story. The Russians have a history of shooting down unarmed passenger aircraft such as the Korean 747 a number of years ago.
They have Buk missiles... 72,000 feet.

The Ukraine also have a history of shooting down civilian airliners and denying that they are responsible:

what is the death like, in that?

you will hear a big bang, feel the freezy air (10,000 meters altitude), you cant breath (thin air anyway, still speed of the plane), the pressure difference makes your lungs burst..?

at what point will most people die and of what ?

probably quite fast from the blast and the explosive decompression. even if you didn't die, you'd be unconscious when you died later.

Not a pleasant death, none can be but I am thinking, mercifully, quite quick.

The real lasting pain will be with the families, especially the single family, that has now lost members on both Malaysian air disasters.

The next few days will be a political Hand Grenade on a world scale.

I am not sure how this is going to go, it is a whole new ball game but the Americans and Russians will be head to head and who will stand between them? Maybe this is the time China, really takes its place on the political stage but then again, maybe not.

I can see some sacrificial lambs on both sides but still no clear diplomatic path through this tragic event.

The original incident was horrific enough. Now the outside investigators are having difficulty getting access to the site, which is being guarded by drunken separatist thugs ( according to those on site investigators ). Meanwhile the dead bodies, many strapped into their seats are lying around in the fields decomposing. The lack of humanity in all of this is appalling.

Something has to give on this and quickly.

Local residents are doing the gruesome work of finding the victims' bodies (and parts) and covering them with what they have.
Not only did whoever shot that missile kill close to 300 people including babies and children, but also hamper HIV/AIDS research with the death of a score of scientists who have contributed to great advances in the fight against HIV.

I do not care about who the blame lies in but the result is an utterly senseless tragedy.

Yes another tragic aspect to this event is the loss of pioneers in HIV/Aids research.

Bottom line is that the missile was designed/produced by Russia. Now all they have to do is figure out where it came from and who were the experts/tec's that helped them aim/fire it. As it was said in the X-files, "The truth is out there." Putin is sure doing the political two-step on this one, this after sending in Russian troops to a sovereign country. Think Korean flight 007.
