another bank question

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. A few of the Thai banks operate here - Kasikorn, SCB (CCB here), Bangkok Bank, etc. Surely they would be the best bet in such a scenario if it is also the same bank on the Thai side?

Are you talking about transfer between Thailand and Cambodia? If so, get the party in Cambodia to go down to the money shops on St 298 by Olympic market. Deposit into a Thai account, get cash or ABA transfer this end.

no Cambodia to Thailand. I wonder if the shops would do in reverse. ?
looks like aba /canadia swift transfer will run me about $60

You could also try Wing or AMK to Deemoney in Thailand if that is an option, but I think limited to $5k per txn & no idea on fee sorry.

I would be surprised if they didn't, I imagine the two-way thing is what keeps them working. About 5 years ago the company I worked for used #34 on that street for transferring funds for duty payments here, often 5 figure sums. No fee, they just made it on the rate difference but it was always a better rate than banks.

Why do you want to buy THB if you think it is going to depreciate against the USD?

Currently it's less than 36 THB to the USD, so I guess the word 'sink' isn't correct.

Well of course, when the Thai baht sinks against the US dollar, you get more baht per dollar, such as 37 instead of 36. Nothing wrong with Richard's statement (and I hope his prediction is right).
