the US government has no interest in smarting up its citizens, the economy would suffer, people would buy less and save money for the future, it would be a disaster for the whole ideology of consumerism.
to rule the US with an iron fist they need a society which is kept dumbed down from birth, nationalism also plays a big part on all this.
