Administration/Moderation Concerns?

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

I had no idea that by my LIKING a post it resulted in giving someone Karma points,

I thought i was ONLY liking the post,,,,
why are the two connected??

You say if we dont like it, dont use it BUT i do likes some posts so say so, why does that have to give someone karma points?
and even if i DONT use it, someone else will on my name,
so can we OPT out of karma being given??
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Agree that +1, +2, +3, -1, -2, -3 is overkill. A simple +1 or -1 is enough, full stop.

As for Bingham and JSP, they both seem to be bringing their issues from TOF over here. Not necessary. Both posters, to me, are completely different to their OF alter-egos. Get a life, guys.

I'm more interested in putting it into an automated system. Let the users self moderate, give the mods a break from admin review etc. I do understand that this may be prohibitively expensive to do though.

I really don't mind if it's kept or not, just less dedicated trolling by everyone that does it please.

Sorry for inputting to the thread . If you were being reasonable, lol, you would have seen that I just ignore him.
I think it's wise to remember that trolls like to get a reaction. However, Bingham is much worse than that, he tries to undermine people's threads and individual posters. Like the MFI thread on TOF. Does he do it because he doesn't agree with what the poster has written? Or is it just that he likes to pander to the group thinking on a subject and gain a sense of self worth?

BTW, I would be posting in the exact same style as I do on here on TOF, except that there is far more trolling there. What a lot of posters do, and I think it's only natural, is to troll them back. Which is not good for anyone except the original troll and his pals.

And as you said in one of your recent posts, if you don't like it ignore it. You were talking about the karma function, but don't you think it should equally apply to posters?

No need to apologize, you're input is as welcome as anybody elses.

You just ignore him? But didn't you say . . .
juansweetpotato wrote: Sat Jun 03, 2017 11:45 am Bingham seriously trolled yet another of my posts. I gave him - 3 on each of his troll posts. What's wrong with that?
That's hardly ignoring someone is it? You're just giving him a reason to troll you back.

That's some serious paraphrasing there. Not quite sure my message was "post pics or delete the thread."

yes, it was. which probably is what caused the rather vigorous reply from the unpronounceable name.
neither post was particularly helpful to the OP.

Is it possible that my comment was more along the lines of "if you're just going to post that here and not reply to queries, I hope the admins delete your post"?

Edit: More importantly, would it not have been a decent thing to do to let me know you'd deleted my post, to avoid all the BS about it?

sorry, I have a life outside here too. it really did not seem to warrant an explanation it was so petty. should be pretty self evident.
on the one hand people are complaining about trolled threads and bickering and the need for increased modding, then complaining of over modding.
i cleaned it up more to avoid airing the spat which is a bit embarrassing and as being off topic, and unhelpful to the poster.
