Achtung! Censorship! Ban the evil doers

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Achtung! Censorship! Ban the evil doers

Post by frank lee bent »

A subject dear to all forum members hearts'.

A like button has been clamored for here as a useful thing.

I propose a "blackball" button for users to censor each other. Anonymous like with no blowback for the proposer.

Any annoying cnuts can be sin binned then banned as a last resort by popular acclaim. It would have to be very biased in favor of " offenders" LOL.

We all hate censorship and thaivisa but rarely evil arises in our midst and must be punished.

Let the users decide, not admin who already has enough to do. Mutual blackballs would just cancel each other.

This place has been most refreshingly tolerant to date, and that is a strength.

Understand, I do not have any particular victims in mind at this point, unlike some here, I enjoyed some of the posts that Drifter made.

Recent frequent intervention by mods/admin has highlighted the need to maintain a modicum of civility here; enforcement is the only way finally.

Cranky buncha fcuks these internets folk.

I know one thing - freedom of speech does not mean we should have to listen to some of the rubbish that's hitting the forum at the moment.

The issue with your suggested modification is that its prone to abuse. Individuals always have the option to "foe" a user, thus making their posts vanish for that user. With most trolling posters once enough people have them on ignore they tend to drift away because no one is responding to their rubbish.

problem with placing people on foe, the thread sometimes makes no sense when someone responds to a post in the thread posted by your foe

I like Franks suggestion

5 fuck offs ( blackballs) on one post by one poster and the poster automatically gets one day off

Why I hate karma an prefer the like button;

I get karma but no one but me and the one giving me the karma knows that they gave it to me, and why,(yea the karma points go up) but who really cares?

when u have a like button ( as k440 or thai visa) you can see who liked (agreed) with your post

I like a post doesn't mean i like the poster only what he/she said :thumb:

I agree with OD.
Richard now has 2 'black balls' (are these like blue balls?).

so we have 654 users... if 5 is your magic number that means that 0.7% of users have to not like you to get someone banned.

lets assume that only about 10% of those are active (including lurkers who could vote as well)... that's 65. so 7% of users.

with all the talk about 440 being "clicky" it surprises me that users here would want to give less than 10% of all other active users the power to kick someone off the site... and less than 1% of all users total. hell, at 5 users the 440 mods/admins could come over here and dominate the site by running through and banning everyone.
