This guy's story is well known in Thailand. Here is a recent photo of him in Kampot ... from the other forum.

For whatever reason; the Thai's obviously don't want him.

Maybe they don't have the case they once thought they had. Either way, if I see him around Kampot and we speak, I'll ask him.

Right now, it just looks like ancient history being pointlessly dug up over and over.

The Thais may not want him now, but they did want him in 2005 when they arrested him and sought to try him based on the strength of the evidence against him -- the bloody clothes, the knife, the 13 witnesses.

Taylor wanted no part of a trial that would have evaluated evidence and made a determination of his guilt or innocence. Instead, he jumped bail, fled the country, and hid for years. He hid for so long that the Thais apparently lost the evidence or decided they no longer cared about seeking justice for the lower class woman he was accused of killing.

Some Kampot expats seem to be more or less giving him high fives and saying "well played Mick, you beat the rap, have another beer"

Would they be as accepting of him if he had fled child molestation charges in Thailand? My guess is no. It seems they just think it's really cool to drink with a guy who jumped bail on charges of murdering a woman.

That's a bit harsh Cam Navig, we all have our own moral compass.
Some of us save our outrage for far more heinous crimes.

I mean, it's not like he tried to raise money for a hospice on GoFundMe, or something truly terrible like that.

The victim's family and friends are still looking for answers so it's not pointless for them. Must be terrible to know that the woman's killer (whoever it is) remains unpunished.

And "skipping bail" in SEA is often a way of saying that you paid the authorities to look the other way. However, the guy still has a valid UK passport apparently, that must have been renewed by the UK authorities since 2004, so officially it's all good. He is now presumably obeying the laws of Cambodia, and of course has a correct business visa for Cambodia and a work permit too.
“So far, our Cambodian Interpol has not received any request for cooperation from Thai Interpol regarding this case,” he said. “So police will not take action against him or arrest him unless he is committing crimes in Cambodia.”
From PPP.

Well, I can f*cking guarantee you that I haven t sliced any hookers up and dumped their body, so I can say Mick the English Murderer is a piece of shit. As far as if the law has ever been fair to foreigners in SEA, the law isn t about fairness, not in your home country, not in mine, it is about money. Are you suggesting that foreigners pay more for riding without a helmet so they will pay more for murder?

I'm assuming you are taking your statements about the alleged evidence and witnesses from the Daily Mail article in the OP?

The same article says that following his arrest and bail, proceedings were adjourned for 21 months.

I'm not sure where you get the info that the Thais lost the evidence against him from? Seems speculative.

I haven't seen anybody congratulating the guy for "beating the rap", but I think you can agree that there are more questions than answers here.

So what’s the deal on being armed in Cambodia; it seems like the fee paid for the privilege is expensive, or so I’ve read. How much is “expensive”? I’d like to know how it works if there are murder fugitives running around...
