This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! 4595 Consecutive Days in KoW

Post by Username Taken »

Just wanted to say that today I exited the country for the first time in 4595 days.

That's 4595 days with a valid passport and visa. And, a valid work permit, in recent years.

I wonder if that's some kind of record (not counting Frenchies who've lived here forever).

Tonight I will spend one night in Bangkok, and apparently the world will be my oyster.

Back next week. :beer3:

Consecutive? That's pretty amazing. I'm pretty sure you're entitled to a medal. Seriously though, that's remarkable if not slightly crazy. How many passports total? How many visas? Were they all year-long visas?

Totally agreed with BKL. More than 12.5 yrs, very impressive. I'm curious what you think of what the 'outside world' has become to.
Hope you have a good time abroad!

Might be in a better position to respond some time on Wednesday.
But I'll just say, Phnom Penh is home. Wife, kids, work. Actually, it felt pretty weird leaving after all this time.

Well, 12.5 years ago was just a 10 day visit to Bangkok, and regarding my thoughts on the 'outside world' so far . . . . .
. . . on arriving in BKK yesterday, my immediate thoughts were 'God, I'm glad I don't live in Bangkok. In Phnom Penh it's just so much easier to get around.'
I must say that transport in BKK is a vast improvement on what it used to be.

Am most impressed, sir. But I don't think I'd have lasted 12.5 months without stepping on the other side of the border. Was in Vietnam in April and already got itchy feet. (I live outside Pattaya.)

Yeah, Bangkok's got transit and it works wonderfully. But it still takes a long time to get anywhere because it's usually indirect. Like you, I prefer Phnom Penh's mean streets.

Bangkok's got shopping and nearly all my friends but it is also the city I love to hate. Lived there three times and hated it more each time.

Wow that is impressive.

I myself spent a whole year in one country without leaving in 1989, the only time I have done that in over 40 years.

Next week I will enter Cambodia for about the 55th time over the same 12.5 year period.
