$3000 deposit + everything else

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

If you prove positive you will be taken to the Soviet Friendship hospital at a cost of $250 per day. If you die $1500 will be deducted from your deposit for cremation.
Tip of the week: If you don't have enough money to pay for 2 weeks quarantine, then you can get cremated for half the price.

We have a new winner for the title of World's Harshest Covid-19 Entry Requirement.
....Oh yeah, and if you die of the virus while in Cambodia, $1,500 will be taken out of the $3,000 sum to cremate you.

We are not kidding. Cambodia is making tourists pay a death deposit.

I have fairly good information that a great deal of lobbying is happening from powerful people to stop this. It can be expected to change "soon".
My advice to anyone hoping to travel here is to wait a bit.

The question is, what changes will they make? I can't really fault them for quarantining people and making sure they have insurance. If they sold mandatory insurance (to make sure people don't just show up with fake insurance documents) at the airport instead of collecting that deposit, this would be a workable compromise. They could also allow people to book and pay for their quarantine hotel before arriving.

What if you die from a heart attack while in the K-S Hospital? Do you still have to pay the $1500, or is it normal rates?

Public shaming? In 2018 the government won a 125-0 election victory, after arresting the opposition leader, locking him up and dissolving his party through the courts (in about a week). If this farce didn't shame them, I don't think amusing articles in foreign publications will even register on their Shame-O-Meter.
